And now for the rain...

Latest News

After giving advise on how to plan a move in the summer heat in the last blog, we have had nothing but rain! I hope I didn't jinx the weather.

As rain is something we tend to have a lot of experience with, in Britain, we at Albany Removals are well prepared. We have covers for flooring, to avoid muddy footprints being trampled through houses and covers for furniture.

Customers packing their own boxes need to ensure they are robust enough for a move regardless of whether it is raining (see previous blogs), but it becomes especially important that your precious belongings are not stacked in open crates, paper bags, weak boxes when the weather is damp and rainy.

If you are taking garden furniture, try to keep it dry before the move, either by bringing it under cover, or using waterproof covers. This will not only make it easier to move, but also avoid bringing wet damp objects into contact with dry ones. Covering once they are already wet should only be a last resort. It is particularly important to avoid items being wet and damp on long distance moves or if they are going into storage. The longer items sit in damp conditions the more likely the problem with mildew and mould.

When it is raining it is especially important to ensure we can get our lorries as close to the property as possible to aid in keeping things dry.
For most houses, especially in the busier areas of Nottingham and Rushcliffe, we need space on the road, outside the house to load our lorries. Streets lined with Victorian housing often have narrow frontage and parking is a premium, so it is essential to ensure you inform your neighbours of your need for parking spaces on the morning of your move. We have had the unfortunate circumstance of having to park quite a distance from the removal point, in the past, and it really is problematic. This not only makes the job harder and longer for the colleagues trying to carry and manoeuvre heavy boxes and furniture down a road, but when it is raining it added an extra layer of issues and difficulties.
There are many houses in the West Bridgford, Ruddington and wider Nottingham area with driveways for us to back onto. You may need to consider moving obstacles such as bins, garden ornaments or other vehicles off the drive prior to our arrival. Remember, our lorries are wider, with less all-round visibility and more restricted moveability than your average car. Torrential rain doesn’t help this visibility, so we need to take extra care. If you have potholes or a driveway prone to getting waterlogged in the more severe downpours, do let us know, so we can plan and avoid problems.
The three important things you need to ensure are completed before any removal lorry arrives on removal day are:

Ensuring everything is packed and labelled appropriately.
Ensuring all appliances, to be removed, are disconnected.
Ensure there is a parking space big enough for the lorry or lorries, to park outside your home.

As rain is a constant weather pattern in the UK, it really shouldn’t cause any problems with a removal as long as your belongings are protected and exposure to the rain is limited. If you have any concerns contact Albany and we can discuss them, hopefully providing solutions and reassurance.
