January 2022 again
A removal from Derbyshire to Nottingham.

I visited to quote for a removal and left providing separate prices for packing materials, packing, and dismantling (though the customer had said they would dismantle a large bar on the premises). The washing machine and other such appliances need to be dismantled by the owner or a professional as we are unable to get insurance for this.
The customers, who were lovely people, in their 70s, chose to pack all goods themselves and provide their own packing materials. I left a comprehensive list of things that needed to be sorted to ensure the move went smoothly.
This was a two-day job because there was a large amount to move. We began loading on the Thursday and finished midday Friday. I was concerned that the packing wouldn’t be carried out before we arrived. Customers often under-estimate what a big job this is until they start. When we arrived on Thursday the packing was far from complete. We loaded the furniture and things that had been packed. On Friday morning I brought packing materials and we got to work getting the packing completed for the lovely couple. This was a big job as the China and crockery was still in the original cupboard and display table. As we need to get the large furniture loaded on the first day it adds a lot of time and reorganisation if they are still filled with items, especially breakables, which need very careful wrapping and packing.
I let the customers know we could go with the quote which included the packing and they were very pleased, having realised how overwhelming it is. It isn’t until you start that you realise how much work and time is involved. Letting Albany removals take the strain from you, takes one of the stressful jobs off a client’s hands.
We used both an 18-tonne truck and a Luton truck for this move, which shows how big the move was. On my visit I asked if anything outside was going and they said no, but two days before they contacted me to say they were mistaken and that there were bikes and a generator. On the day we found pictures, tools, garden equipment and other things that the clients wanted to take with them. It is easy to forget things in outhouses, sheds, garages, attics, so make sure you check the whole of your property and show the estimator all rooms and buildings that may have things that need moving.
By Friday, midday, both trucks were packed full. Fortunately, we were able to add the additional items without going over the legal weight limit. This is another reason why we must know exactly what needs transporting. We set off to the new property to await keys, which unfortunately didn’t arrive until 4.30 pm when it was getting dark. You’ll know from previous blogs that this is a growing problem.
I informed the customers that we would unload the small truck, put up the bed and unload essential, overnight items, then we would return the next day to unload the big truck. We were lucky that we did not have a big job on the next day or we would have had to work well into the night, getting the unloading done. The lads were tired and so were the clients, so waiting until the next day was good for all. We have secure parking for overnight loads.
This move was a downsize, but we still needed to put some furniture in the garage as it wouldn’t fit in the new house. It is worth measuring up before hand to see what will fit before you move, if you are downsizing, this will save time and money, though some people find the decisions difficult until they are in the new home.
When we finished, we checked with the clients that all furniture and boxes were in the right place, we didn’t want them to have to move anything themselves, as much of it was heavy. Labelled boxes and furniture help to assure this too.
Although this was a tricky removal, all the lads from Albany Removal pulled together to ensure this lovely couple got their move done and left with the furniture and secured packing boxes ready, where they needed them to do at their own pace. They were happy and relieved to finally be in their new home.
